After 20 Years
We are taking what we have learned, closing a nonprofit, opening a foundation and a corporation. All in hopes of helping more people more effectively.
Since July, 2001, my sister Shaunessy and I have managed to channel our passion and compassion into serving people that we have had the pleasure of engaging with around the world. We jumped in with both feet, alongside our father (who took the ball and ran with starting a non-profit), knowing that our intention to help people meant that the result was going to be good.
To a certain extent, this was true. With a lot of compassion and a willingness to try, we found that we had hundreds of doors open around the world. However, what we also found was that there were limitations on what we were actually able to accomplish. We saw unbelievable things happen, and are grateful for all that we experienced. We also learned that the workers on the ground had very little input on their duties and that beneficiaries had very little input on the help they received.
This started the process that brings us to today.
We are closing our non-profit, The Global Refuge Project; celebrating the amazing accomplishments we could have never dreamed of when we started; an extremely challenging, heart-wrenching and joy-giving twenty years!
We will soon operate a foundation, The Good Foundation and a for-profit corporation for global good. The foundation and the corporation will work together to operate businesses in the United States and across the world. The goal is to run high-quality businesses that provide jobs for many people. The revenues of the US businesses will go directly to work overseas that equips and empowers people living in displacement. The international businesses will keep all of the revenues in-country, allowing the money to rebuild medical clinics, train medical workers, grow other businesses, provide income for orphanages, etc.
We created this page to channel our victories, losses, thoughts, opinions and knowledge to people that care. We hope it can be a source of education, excitement and also burden you with the reality that we all play a part in loving our neighbors and contributing to the good of the world.
Subscribe to the blog so you have a chance to get updates whenever we add them. We look forward to telling you all about the exciting things we are working on!
